Nokonoshima, a beautiful floating island, is located in the middle of Hakata Bay, Fukuoka, hiding its beauty scenery. The island can be reached by ferry, only 10 minutes from Meinohama station in Fukuoka. Nokonoshima is an island consisting of many attractive places to be visited.

In the northern part of Nokonoshima, you will find the island park, a giant area full seasonal flowers that can be enjoyed all year round. Broccolini and cosmos are the most famous flowers, as well as the yellow rapeseed growth. There is a wide area with a sea view from the garden in Nokonoshima during early spring and cherry blossoms around late March until early April.

During early spring, you will see the yellow color of rapeseed flowers contrast with green leaves and the blue sea from the park. Take a deep breath and see how wonderful the scenery is above the sea.

You can enjoy a trip around this island by walking, cycling, or by bus. Nokonoshima spans only 12 kilometers, so it is quite easily enjoyed as a day trip. It is easily reached from Hakata Station by traveling to Meinohama Station, then get a bus.

Taxis are another comfortable mode of transportation in Nokonoshima. It costs 900 yen one way from Meinohama Station to Meinohama Ferry Terminal, then take the ferry for 230 yen one way or 460 round trip around 10 minutes and you will get arrive at a unique island full of fresh air and cool scenery.

Once you arrive at Noko ferry terminal, you can take the 10-minute bus ride to the island park (230 yen one way). If you’re up for a challenge, enjoy the island by walking 3 kilometers from the Noko ferry terminal to Island Park. The walking track will offer you a great sea view — just be careful of the many cars along the road and wild animals. If you prefer to walk, it is recommended to make the trek in the early morning or at noon.

Need more Nokonoshima activities? The island park allows visitors to rent games and tools, such as a barbecue cooking set, baseball game set, volleyball, rope-skiing, and more fun games that can be enjoyed with friends and family. The island park is open every day, from 9:00-17:30 for weekdays and 9:00-18:30 (March to November) for weekends. Enjoy the superb view of floating island in the heart of Hakata Bay, Fukuoka.
