Although the garden spans a relatively modest 64.6 hectares, it contains Japanese imagery from throughout different regions and time periods. History buffs and travellers will notice tiny incarnations of several of the famous landmarks that occupy this stretch, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/tag\/fuji\/\" class=\"ek-link\">Mount Fuji<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/discover-shiga-near-kyoto\/\" class=\"ek-link\">Lake Biwa<\/a>, and Inari Shrine<\/strong>. The location was originally chosen by lord <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hosokawa_Tadatoshi\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">Hosokawa Tadatoshi<\/a>, due to the pond&#8217;s spring-fed water from the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/mount-aso-geotourism\/\" class=\"ek-link\">Mount Aso<\/a> being perfect for <strong>tea ceremony<\/strong>. The name \u201cJ\u014djuen\u201d comes from a character in a poem written by the 4th-century Chinese poet Tao Yuanming, who Tadatoshi admired. It is easy to find yourself spending an afternoon basking in the shade of the trees, or watching the koi flickering beneath the pond&#8217;s surface. For those who get hungry during the stroll around the tiny T\u014dkaid\u014d, there are several <strong>snack stands<\/strong>\u00a0that offer\u00a0things such as Kumamoto\u2019s famed <a href=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/dumplings-kumamoto-rice-confectionary\/\" class=\"ek-link\">ikinari dango<\/a>\u00a0to cotton candy, as well as a restaurant overlooking the pond, which serves <strong>traditional Japanese cuisine<\/strong>.
