During this expedition the lord of<strong> Arita<\/strong>, of the <strong>Nabeshima clan<\/strong>, forced the Korean potter Lee Sampyeon and his apprentices to settle in Japan. Thanks to the discovery of a kaolin deposit in the Izumiyama hills at Arita, <strong>Yi Sam-pyeong<\/strong> successfully made the first Japanese porcelain.<\/p>\n<p>First characterized by their blue patterns on a white background of <strong>Korean influence<\/strong>; they improved themselves with various colors on a white background thanks to the advances of <strong>Sakaida Kakiemon<\/strong>, who managed to obtain for the first time poly-chrome decors around 1643.<\/p>\n<p>From then on, Arita quickly became a major production center for <strong>ko-Imari tableware<\/strong> and art objects (known in Europe as Imari porcelain, named after the neighboring port village from which it was exported), with around 150 ovens.<\/p>\n<p>From the 17th century, Arita&#8217;s products reached Europe, imported by <strong>the Dutch East India Company<\/strong>, and were the object of all the covetousness of the royal and princely courts. In the 18th century, the porcelain manufactures such as Meissen and Chantilly tried to imitate the multicolored Japanese decorations of kakiemon, in very fashionable forms.<\/p>\n<p>Still today known worldwide for its achievements, <strong>Arita holds a large ceramic festival twice a year, in spring (29 April-5 May) and in autumn (late November).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-33076\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33076\" src=\"https:\/\/voyapon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/arita1-281x500.jpg\" alt=\"Autumn Visit to the Arita Ceramics festival, Saga Prefecture, Japan.\" width=\"281\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>The Autumn Ceramics Festival in Arita<\/h2>\n<p>The ceramic festival in Autumn, less busy than the spring festival, is the perfect opportunity to gaze at the original pieces of dishes. The <strong>Uchiyama district<\/strong> has been designated as one of the conservation areas for historically important buildings. Remarkably, the door torii as well as a pair of guard dogs, a big jar, and the parapets of the building are made by porcelain. Here at Restaurant Honjin, have lunch around a specialty of local tofu. The godofu, is made with kudzu instead of nigari.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Useful information :<\/h2>\n<p>The festival takes place every year in the spring (April 29-May 5) and at the end of November (dates vary slightly each year). The fall\u00a0festival is more focused on tableware.
