As we approached the main street of Yunohira Onsen<\/strong><\/a> (\u6e6f\u5e73\u6e29\u6cc9), I was a bit surprised. Thirty minutes earlier, I had been in Yufuin<\/strong>, one of the most popular hot springs<\/strong> towns in Oita Prefecture<\/strong><\/a>. With its trendy shops and restaurants and upscale ryokan, Yufuin is filled with tourists year-round, but here in nearby Yunohira Onsen<\/strong>, a solitary couple walked arm-in-arm down the main cobblestone street<\/strong>. This too was a lovely little town filled with onsen<\/em><\/strong>, but where were the people?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
