The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1923_Great_Kant%C5%8D_earthquake\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Great Kanto Earthquake of 1921 (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Great Kanto Earthquake of 1921<\/a> caused a great deal of damage in the area and forced many residents to pack their bags and move somewhere safer. Residents from this agricultural area also endured the bombing of the Second World War some years later. It was around this time that, under American occupation, Shimokitazawa began a secondhand clothing market for American soldiers. We can still see remnants of this history today. Take the north exit from Shimokitazawa Station, and you will be ready to start exploring. There\u2019s no need to enter an address into a GPS as it\u2019s better to stroll around the adjacent alleyways and go where your mood takes you. Cars scarcely enter the small, narrow streets, which <strong>allow pedestrians and cyclists to walk freely <\/strong>without worrying much about encountering traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow yourself to wander from one attractive shop to another. In Shimokitazawa, you won\u2019t find many big brands or franchises. The thrift stores aren\u2019t filled with unorganized holdalls and stuffy smells. Instead, each item of clothing, pair of shoes, or accessory is of an&nbsp;<strong>impeccable quality<\/strong>&nbsp;(by secondhand standards at least). The first one is&nbsp;<strong>Ocean Blvd:<\/strong>&nbsp;an enormous complex of individual stands selling&nbsp;<strong>vintage items and unique creations<\/strong>. Why not consider a stroll through the streets in the evening? It can be an excellent time to experience&nbsp;<strong>the area\u2019s lively local music scene.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"htoc-how-to-reach-shimokitazawa\">How To Reach Shimokitazawa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1ZGoMTYTQKYFYJ4nwAGnXppkU9W88MMpx&amp;hl=en\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shimokitazawa Station<\/strong>&nbsp;(\u4e0b\u5317\u6ca2\u99c5) is served by two lines: the&nbsp;<strong>Keio-Inokashira<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Line<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>Odakyu Line<\/strong>.
