Oak Hostel Fuji is convenient and accessible to sightseeing destinations like Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Sky Tree, located near Asakusa station. I arrived at the hostel behind another guest also looking to stay the night. I stood patiently in line to be checked in, but didn’t have to wait long. Immediately, one of the hostel staff came from the back office to assist me. She took my information and began to get a head start on my check in before the other Oak Hostel Fuji staff member was finished with the first guest. By the time it was my turn to check in, the hostel staff already had my information ready to go. It was quite convenient for my tired legs. If no one is at the desk, there is a cute little xylophone that hostel guests can play to call for assistance. It’s the little things that make all the difference when you hostel hop.

Cozy and comfortable Hostel in Tokyo

Once checked in, I noticed the suave modern decor. The atmosphere of Oak Fuji Hostel was cozy and comfortable. With wood panels, concrete walls and soft overhead lighting, the hostel common area is like the New York apartment you always wished you could have.

Oak Hostel Fuji, what’s the bunk bed like?

I made my way to the second floor, a code-locked ladies’ floor, where I found my assigned hostel bed and locker. After putting in the code, turn the handle right, not left, otherwise you lock it again. The beds are in the same style as a capsule hotel, but they are not made of plastic. Thankfully, it doesn’t feel like your getting an MRI scan. I actually felt like I had more privacy in my Oak Fuji hostel room than in any other hostel I had been in.

Shower Room

After having walked around Asakusa all day, I felt like I needed a shower. The toilets are separate from the shower and all rooms are lockable, so you are able to enjoy your privacy.

If you’re like me, you might forget a few accommodation like shower items. Luckily, for 100 Yen (about $1), the Oak Fuji Hostel provides good quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as well as a towel that actually covers your body. And yes, the water is hot!

I was extremely impressed with Fuji Hostel staff. When I went expressed a desire to venture outside of Asakusa to meet some friends for dinner, the staff researched train transfer information for me. One Oak Fuji staff member even took me outside to point me in the right direction. She was so sweet and friendly that it was like I was hanging out a new friend (shout out to Rina!).

Later in the night, the Oak Fuji Hostel staff helped me find some much needed snacks at the nearby Lawson’s konbini. Hospitably, they waited for me to return so I wouldn’t have to punch in the code on the side door.

Common area

The Oak Fuji Hostel Staff will say they are just, “doing their job,” but these small things make a huge difference in one’s hostel stay. Everyone was welcoming and accommodating; the decor was pleasant and cozy; and even though I was traveling alone, I felt like I was among friends. I was due to stay one night at Oak Hostel Fuji, but the next morning I did not want to leave. As a solo travelling female, finding a hostel that makes you feel at home can really make your travels enjoyable. I will definitely return to Oak Hostel Fuji near Asakusa, and you should head there, too!
