Starting in April, Nankai Electric Railway, in Kansai, will implement a fare increase for its express train services. The new pricing structure will distinguish between ticketless and paper tickets, a shift aimed at modernizing the fare system and accommodating the growing trend of digital ticketing in Japan. As part of these changes, the regular express ticket will be phased out, reflecting a broader move within the Japanese transportation sector towards more flexible and efficient ticketing options.

Following the revision, limited express and reserved seat fees will be set at 700 yen for the “Rapi:t” and “Southern” Limited Express trains (up from 520 yen). Fares for the “Koya” will be revised to either 1,100 yen or 700 yen (previously 790 yen and 520 yen), while fees for the “Rinkan” and “Senboku Liner” will increase to 700 yen (from 520 yen). Children’s fares will be charged at half the adult rate.

In Japan, public transportation is a crucial part of daily life, with trains and subways being the preferred mode of travel for many. The integration of technology into this system is not only a response to changing consumer habits but also an effort to streamline operations and improve the overall passenger experience.
