Kodomonohi

Kodomonohi, or Children’s Day, is a vibrant and cherished festival in Japan, celebrated annually on May 5th. This day is dedicated to the happiness and well-being of children, and it is a time when families come together to honor their growth and prosperity. Traditionally, families display colorful carp streamers, known as koinobori, outside their homes, symbolizing strength and success. Inside, they may set up displays featuring samurai helmets and dolls, representing courage and protection. Special foods like kashiwa mochi, a sweet rice cake wrapped in oak leaves, are enjoyed during the festivities. Kodomonohi is a wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese culture and traditions, offering a glimpse into the values of family and community that are deeply rooted in Japanese society.
