Located less than an hour away from central Hamamatsu, Kakegawa Kachoen is a flower and bird park which offers visitors the opportunity to see and interact with a variety of birds from around the world – from energetic South African penguins to soothing European barn owls.
Visitors of all ages can enjoy the park, which is particularly kid-friendly with plenty of activities, interactive shows, and educational demonstrations available throughout. You can watch parrots and hawks perform thrilling tricks in midair in one of the daily Flight Shows or learn about different owl species from in-house bird experts. Visitors also have the opportunity to feed, hold, and take photographs with penguins, parakeets, owls, and many other birds.
The park boasts a large greenhouse filled with free roaming birds and a lily pond which features koi fish and beautiful aquatic vegetation year-round. Small children can also try standing on a giant floating lily pad while learning about the biology of water plants. In addition, visitors can mingle with swans, pelicans, and even emus in an outdoor farm area complete with a lake view and promenade.
Hungry? No need to ruffle your features! Should you wish to take a break from the day’s activities, the park also offers a beautifully decorated flower-filled food court with ample seating room and a variety of food options where you can enjoy a quick snack or a full lunch buffet. Bird-themed pastries and sweets are also available at a café. Try the owl roll cake with a cup of coffee as a mid-visit pick me up!
