What Will Summer Be Like in Japan?
Summer in Japan is super hot and more humid than you would expect. According to a report in 2016, more than 50,000 people were transported to hospitals due to heatstroke between the months of May and September, and in 2016 alone, nearly 50 people passed away because of heatstroke. So this is something to take seriously when you plan a trip to Japan.
To prevent heatstroke, there are a number of useful products to fight heatstroke from ever occurring, and of course, the frequent intake of water is also fundamental in preventing heatstroke. In Japan, a ” Zero Heatstroke ” project was put together by the Japan Weather Association and has been running since 2013. Throughout 2017, they will continue to promote their project to get people to pay more attention to the problem of heat stroke and how to avoid it. In July, Tokyo, Kanazawa, and Fukuoka, which are some of the major cities in Japan, will collaborate with the Ministry of the Environment to organize promotional events such as “Preventing Heatstroke in July.”
The famous character Hello Kitty will be the ambassador of this event. At the event, they will offer several educational campaigns which will help promote the safe enjoyment of the summer season. If you make a trip to the event you might have the chance to nab a Hello Kitty-themed paper fan. They are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, and you get to take a picture with Hello Kitty herself, before uploading the picture onto social media. You can also get a themed fan if you participate in a questionnaire related to heatstroke. A chance to learn about heatstroke while collecting cool heatstroke prevention gifts.
