Oita Prefecture

Ōita is a coastal prefecture in Japan’s island Kyushu, and is renowned for being one of the most famous onsen destinations in Japan; due to the number of springs, and the sheer volume of hot water produced in the region. Ōita prefecture boasts famous onsen cities such as Beppu and Yufuin. On top of the numerous hot springs, Ōita is home to many deep historical sites and offers an array of  shrines, temples, and castles. The Shinto and Buddhist worship places such as the sacred USA Jingu Shrine and Kunisaki peninsula, along with the beautiful samurai towns such as Kitsuki, Usuki and Taketa make Ōita unique in its offering. It is easy to enjoy the breathtaking nature around Ōita, thanks to its rich geography surrounded by seas and mountains. Fresh seafood and vegetables are always available in abundance.
