Catch Your Own Fish at Zauo Restaurant
My friends and I were deciding a place to hang out for the night, randomly flipping through the pages of the guide book. We came across the description of this restaurant, and thought it is a nice and interesting concept and worth a visit. What followed was totally unanticipated! We had an awesome experience and so much fun trying to get a fish. This is a great place to be with friends and family. Needless to say, children will love it too.
Shinjuku’s Unique Restaurant Experience
Zauo restaurant is located in Shinjuku. It is a walking distance of about 10-15 minutes from Shinjuku station. This was a new and pretty unique concept for me. The entire restaurant is converted into a boat shaped structure, surrounding this structure there is a moat with fishes and other sea food of all varieties. It was so much fun trying to get hold of my own fish but unfortunately I couldn’t manage to get hold of one. Nevertheless, my friends had a great time, as by the end of our fishing fiesta, each one of them had their own fish. I was trying to target this big shark and then some small shrimps but failed in all my attempts. Maybe, fishing is not my cup of tea!
Catch and Eat Your Meal
Once we were seated we were given some fishing rods and bait, with which we can start fishing. Before we started we were given a fare introduction to the fishes and the price range. There is one thing to keep in mind. You cannot let go a fish after you catch it. After you catch it, the fish is yours and included in your meal for the day. My friend caught the most expensive fish the restaurant had and we had that for our dinner that day. Even when I write this, I have a smile on my face as the whole experience was extremely funny and memorable.
Grilled Fish: Pricing
Coming to food, the fishes are grilled before they are served. To ensure the natural essence of the fish, the only seasonings used are lemon and salt. When you visit this restaurant be sure to spend about 5000 JPY per person including alcohol. We spent around 45 minutes trying to catch a fish, and when my friends managed to do that, they were appreciated and applauded by the whole audience.
Lobsters here, are around 7500 JPY and not so fresh, so I would not recommend you spend time trying to grab one. Hope you don’t, but if you do fail to catch a fish, you can still order from the menu.
