White Cyclone POV, Have You Tried It Out?
You can’t call yourself a lover of theme parks if you’ve never ridden a wooden roller coaster. Less than two hours by local train from Nagoya, one of the world’s best wooden roller coasters — the White Cyclone — is waiting for you at Nagashima Spa Land in Kuwana, Mie Prefecture.
Admission to Nagashima Spa Land is 1,600 yen, while each ride has a different cost starting at 500 yen. The White Cyclone costs 1,000 yen per ride. I suggest you buy the one-day passport for 4,500 yen, which lets you onto each ride as many times as you like. The park closes at 17:00, so come early.
I had never tried a wooden roller coaster before, so I took a Kintetsu express train from Kyoto to Kuwana station. The ride took three hours, with another 20 minutes on the bus to Nagashima Spa Land. Taking a morning trip will be beneficial for those who want to enjoy the whole amusement park.
The White Cyclone is the longest wooden roller coaster in Japan and one of the three longest in the world. The long track and fast speed will make you scream, and I was excited to ride it. It was very different from steel roller coasters.
The White Cyclone has a gorgeous shape that can be viewed from the nearby Ferris Wheel. The roller coaster is a popular ride, so expect a long queue. Do not eat before you ride it unless you want trouble with your stomach, and for those with heart ailments it is not recommended.
I came in the early morning, so the line for the White Cyclone took just 20 minutes. The ride is a little noisy because of the wooden track, but it’s still a great experience as you can see the seaside and the city from the top of the track. You must try this legendary wooden roller coaster at least once in your life.
