Bicycle exploration is the best possible way to get the most out of your holiday in Kamakura. In this small city, bicycling is so much fun and parking is hassle-free as well. Each and every time I have visited Kamakura, I have made sure to get my hands on one.

Renting a Bicycle in Kamakura: The Three Best Rental Shops

Kamakura has three rental shops that I would recommend. If you are using the Kamakura Station then, Kamakura rental cycle would be a good option. This bicycle shop rents out bicycles starting from 1600 yen per day. The bicycle has to be returned to the shop by 17:00. You will need a photo ID card to be able to rent the bicycle; for foreigners, a passport is a must. So, please don’t forget to carry your passport. For Japanese nationals, any photo ID card issued by the Japanese government is enough to rent a bicycle. This shop is easily accessible from the east exit of the Kamakura station. The shop is maintained by Japan railways.

Another rental cycle favorite is Kamakura’s Grove bicycle renting outlet. This shop is at a walking distance of about 5-6 mins from the Kamakura railway station. The bicycles provided by this store start from 2500 yen for one day. The bicycles are of better quality, and if you are a bicycle lover who loves to perform stunts in bicycle, this place may have better in store for you. Also, the bicycle has to be returned to the shop at 20:00. The requirements for renting the bicycle are the same. Foreign nationals need a passport while Japanese nationals need any ID card issued by the Japan Government. This shop is six minutes by walk from the station.

In addition to the above bicycle rental shops, another I had visited during one of my travels to Kamakura is called Kita Kamakura Rental Cycle. It is five to six minutes walking distance from the west exit of Kita-Kamakura section. Bicycles in this shop are available at 1000 yen. I think this is the cheapest shop for bicycle renting in Kamakura. The place also provides a map of Kamakura to all the tourists for bike exploration. Renting a bicycle at this store is possible any time after 8.30 am. The shop closes at 18.30, so they have to be returned to the shop before then. For more information about this store click here.
