Ehime Prefecture

Ehime Prefecture is located on the island of Shikoku. Prefectural capital is Matsuyama, which is best known for its castle and Dogo Onsen, one of Japan’s oldest Hot Springs (Onsen). A second favorite tourist spot is Matsuyama Castle. Eight of the eighty-eight temples in the Shikoku Pilgrimage are in Matsuyama. Other attractions include Uchiko, a pleasant Countryside town which was once a prosperous center of wax and paper production and Ozu City, where the Hijikawa River is reputedly one of the three greatest destinations in Japan to see cormorant fishing (ukai) in the summer.
